Please excuse another one from me so hot on the heels of my post about the Cameron Winter album (tl;dr: I like it), but I just wanted to let you know about a gig I’m doing in July.
I’m going to be playing at the Green Note in Camden on Sunday 20 July. I’ll be performing as part of a trio with Huw V. Williams on bass and Joe Ryan on drums. Both great musicians – Huw plays with Gruff Rhys, and Joe plays with DAAY and has his own project under the name The Language of Love. We’ll be playing my tunes but in a more jazzy/jammy (jazmy?) sort of way. The rehearsals so far have been great – they’re such fantastic musicians to play with. If you want a little taster, here is a video of me playing with just Huw earlier in the year.
The excellent Antony Hurley will be supporting. You can buy tickets from the venue website.
I wish myself luck!
Also, thanks to Sam Wisternoff for designing the fabulous poster. Sam is an amazing video director/artist/musician. Check out his show reel here:
And a v. funny message from the man himself:
And another quick thing! I’ve been busy in podcast land recently. We launched a new series of Your Own Personal Beatles in May and guests so far have included Ollie from Squid, David Bazan from Pedro the Lion, and the comedian Amy Matthews, who joined us for a deep dive into the ‘historically interesting’ Bee Gees Sgt. Pepper film. Upcoming guests include the author and music journalist Jude Rogers and the comedian Ruth Husko.
And there have been some fun recent episodes of my monthly podcast The Allender Calendar, not least the Bloomsday Special I released on 16 June where I had a good chat with the author David Collard about his book Multiple Joyce. The next one will be an episode where I talk to Elis James about Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci! It may end up being a two-parter because we spoke for about two hours. We realised after 45 minutes that we’d only covered the first album. So that should be with you early July… let’s say mid-July to be on the safe side.
I’ve also guested on a couple of podcasts recently. I was on This Album with William Hann talking about Soundgarden’s Superunknown, and the Soul Music Pod talking about Keith Jarrett’s Köln Concert.
Think that’s it for now. Here’s a song. Digging the new Water From Your Eyes stuff. Heavy. Great chorus.
Bye now!
